Celebrate the changing seasons with our most dynamic course! Our Seasonal Series runs four times a year, offering a fresh, themed curriculum every quarter. This project-focused class is specifically timed so you can create, glaze, and fire your pieces before the season begins, ensuring your curated collection of home goods and decor is ready to use or gift right on time.

Intermediate — students should know how to center and construct basic forms independently. Classes begin with an advanced technical demonstration, followed by independent production time.

Functional Berry Bowls

Throwing a wide flared bowl with an integrated foot ring, followed by layout math and clean drilling techniques for drainage patterns.

Herb Planters + Catch Basins

Throwing or slab-building deep cylinders with custom-labeled rim text, slip-trailing, or stamped indicators for kitchen herbs.

Trimming, Detailing + Surface Additions

Handbuilding matching saucers for planters, executing clean trimming on previous weeks' work, and pulling delicate handles for the berry bowls.

The Bisque Deadline + Surface Prep

Final assembly, surface carving, clean-up of greenware, and preparing all work for the bisque kiln.

Specialized Spring Glazing

Working with the limited-edition spring glaze palette, masking techniques, and ensuring all bottoms are clean for the final firing.

Throwing a matching set of tall, thin-walled tumblers and applying immediate surface textures using rollers, carving tools, or chattering.

Sculptural Citronella Burners

Throwing a closed form or altered cylinder designed to hold standard fuel canisters, focusing on carving decorative venting patterns for air-flow.

Large Serving Platters

Handbuilding large slabs over drop-molds or throwing expansive, low-rimmed platters on oversized bats without slumping.

Refinement, Handles + Foot Rims

Adding structural handles to the large platters and executing crisp, stable trimming on the tumblers and burners.

Final sanding (outside), surface smoothing, scoring and slipping remaining attachments, and loading the bisque shelves.

Utilizing pinch-pot or wheel-thrown closed-form methods to create hollow spheres, followed by ribbing, altering, and pulling organic clay stems.

Elegant Taper Candle Holders

Throwing small precise functional centerpieces with a focus on gauging the socket width to fit standard holiday taper candles.

Large-Scale Soup Tureens

Throwing or slab-constructing a massive heavy-walled structural vessel, along with an integrated inner gallery flange to receive a lid.

Throwing a matching lid to account for shrinkage, cutting spoon notches, and sculpting handles/knobs for the tureen and pumpkins.

Fluting, sgraffito, or faceting fall textures onto greenware before placing pieces on the bisque cart.

Applying rich deep autumn tones, handling heavy glaze applications on large vessels safely, and wiping bases.

Warmth + light

Throwing high-volume belly-shaped forms and pulling heavy ergonomically designed hand-warmer style handles.

Constructing seamless slab or wheel-thrown cylinders, mapping out light-conducting graphics, and using specialized piercing tools for shadow casting.

Holiday Hosting Serving Trays

Constructing rigid flat-bottomed serving trays with raised rims via slab work, focusing on bracing corners to avoid warping during drying.


Week 4:
Handle Attachments + Precision Trimming

Attaching handles to the hosting trays, trimming mug feet, and ensuring the bottoms of all pierced luminaries are perfectly flat.

Final inspection of structural seams, detail carving, underglaze accents, and finishing greenware prep for the bisque fire.

Specialized winter Glazing

Utilizing snow-like crystalline glazes, deep dark values, slip-trailing glaze decorations, and mandatory bottom wiping.

DETAILS

Your tuition includes a 30 lb allotment of standard studio clay, which covers all subsequent house glazes and bisque/glaze firings.

Additional Clay + Firing Fees

Additional studio clay can be purchased for $2.00 per pound (this price includes the raw clay, house glazes, and all subsequent firings).

Tools Provided

Standard studio tools are provided for use during your scheduled class time.

To safeguard our kilns and prevent firing accidents, outside clays, slips, or glazes from other studios or external suppliers are strictly prohibited in our facility. All materials used must originate from 716 CERAMICS STUDIO.

Kiln Safety Policy

Enrollment includes full access to the facility during our designated Open Studio Hours for independent practice and project development throughout the entire 9-week session.

MON – THU: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM

FRI & SAT: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
SUN: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

STUDIO POLICIES + EXPECTATIONS

A minimum of 4 enrolled students is required to run this session. In the rare event a class does not meet minimum enrollment, you will be notified in advance and issued a full refund.

Class MinimuM

Makeup Week

Includes one scheduled makeup session held the week following the final class to ensure all your glazed work is ready for the final kiln firing.

Hard Two-Week Refund Policy

Tuition is refundable (minus a standard credit card processing/service fee) only if a cancellation request is submitted at least 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the first day of the semester. Cancellations made within the 14-day window or after the semester begins are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable.

Shelf Space + Unclaimed Work
(The 30/60 Rule)

Due to high studio volume and limited shelf capacity, strict timelines are enforced:

ABANDONED GREENWARE (30 Days): Any unfinished, bone-dry, or leather-hard greenware left on the student shelves for more than 30 days without activity will be recycled to clear space.

FINISHED FIRED POTTERY (60 Days): Completed, glaze-fired pottery will be held on the pickup shelves for a maximum of 60 days (2 months) from the final day of the semester. Students are solely responsible for tracking and retrieving their pieces. Any work left unclaimed past these dates will be cleared, recycled, or disposed of.
