Celebrate the changing seasons with our most dynamic course! Our Seasonal Series runs four times a year, offering a fresh, themed curriculum every quarter. This project-focused class is specifically timed so you can create, glaze, and fire your pieces before the season begins, ensuring your curated collection of home goods and decor is ready to use or gift right on time.

Intermediate — students should know how to center and construct basic forms independently. Classes begin with an advanced technical demonstration, followed by independent production time.

SPRING
Growth + RENEWAL
Week 1:
Intricate Bud Vases
Throwing off the hump, creating delicate enclosed necks, and trimming stable narrow feet.
Week 2:
Functional Berry Bowls
Throwing a wide flared bowl with an integrated foot ring, followed by layout math and clean drilling techniques for drainage patterns.
Week 3:
Herb Planters + Catch Basins
Throwing or slab-building deep cylinders with custom-labeled rim text, slip-trailing, or stamped indicators for kitchen herbs.
Week 4:
Trimming, Detailing + Surface Additions
Handbuilding matching saucers for planters, executing clean trimming on previous weeks' work, and pulling delicate handles for the berry bowls.
Week 5:
The Bisque Deadline + Surface Prep
Final assembly, surface carving, clean-up of greenware, and preparing all work for the bisque kiln.
Week 6:
Specialized Spring Glazing
Working with the limited-edition spring glaze palette, masking techniques, and ensuring all bottoms are clean for the final firing.
Summer
Al Fresco Living
Week 1:
Textured Tumbler Sets
Throwing a matching set of tall, thin-walled tumblers and applying immediate surface textures using rollers, carving tools, or chattering.
Week 2:
Sculptural Citronella Burners
Throwing a closed form or altered cylinder designed to hold standard fuel canisters, focusing on carving decorative venting patterns for air-flow.
Week 3:
Large Serving Platters
Handbuilding large slabs over drop-molds or throwing expansive, low-rimmed platters on oversized bats without slumping.
Week 4:
Refinement, Handles + Foot Rims
Adding structural handles to the large platters and executing crisp, stable trimming on the tumblers and burners.
Week 5:
The Bisque Deadline + Final Greenware Prep
Final sanding (outside), surface smoothing, scoring and slipping remaining attachments, and loading the bisque shelves.
Week 6:
Specialized Summer Glazing
Layering vibrant summer glazes, using wax resist for clean surface patterns, and cleaning bases.
Fall
Harvest + Hearth
Week 1:
Hand-Sculpted Ceramic Pumpkins
Are you a fan of Jack-O'-Lanterns that won't rot? A pumpkin spice devotee who needs a jar to match the obsession? Good news — we go straight to the heart of autumn. Throw a hollow spheres closed-form, then rib, alter, and pull organic clay stems until each one has its own personality.
Week 2:
Elegant Taper Candle Holders
Spooky season isn't complete without the haunting glow of candlelight. Throw small, precise centerpieces with a focus on gauging socket width so they'll actually hold a standard taper — the difference between a candle holder and a very nice ring dish
Week 3:
Soup Tureens (Part 1/2)
It's sweater weather and soup season, and like the Sanderson sisters, you're going to need a vessel to brew the potions of the season. Throw a large, heavy-walled tureen with an integrated inner gallery flange to receive a lid — your new signature soup dish.
Week 4:
Soup Tureens (Part 2/2
We'll throw matching lids for our soup tureens , cut spoon notches, and sculpt handles and knobs for the tureens and pumpkins.
Week 5:
The Bisque Deadline + Surface Carving
Fluting, sgraffito, and faceting — carve fall texture into your greenware before pieces go on the bisque cart. Last call for anything that needs to make this firing.
Week 6:
Specialized Fall Glazing
Rich, deep autumn tones. We'll cover safe handling of heavy glaze applications on large vessels — a tureen holds a lot of glaze and a lot of weight — plus mandatory base wiping before your work meets a kiln shelf.
Winter
Six Weeks of lake effect
Week 1:
Over-Sized Cocoa Mugs and pierced luminary lanterns
It's getting darker earlier, colder each day, and there's a glow on the trees around town. It's winter in Buffalo, and we embrace it the way we always do. Choose your project: throw a high-volume, belly-shaped mug built to warm your hands and your spirit, or construct a slab or wheel-thrown cylinder and map out a pierced graphic that throws light and shadow across your room.
Week 2:
Precision trimming & detailing
Trim mug feet, pull and attach a traditional or maybe a hand-warmer handles, and refine your piercing patterns. We'll make sure the bottoms of all luminaries sit perfectly flat so your candlelight doesn't wobble.
Week 3:
Holiday Hosting Serving Trays (Part 1/2)
Build rigid, flat-bottomed slab trays with raised rims for everything you serve this season, bracing the corners so nothing warps as it dries.
Week 4:
Holiday hosting serving trays (part 2/2)
Attach tray handles and decorate with seasonal flair — carving, stamping, or slip decoration.
Week 5:
The Bisque Deadline + detailing
Final inspection of structural seams, detail carving, underglaze accents, and greenware prep for the bisque fire.
Week 6:
Specialized winter Glazing
Winter isn't just gray — it's blues, whites, and texture. Working with snow- and ice-like glazes (made exclusively for this class), deep dark values, and slip-trailed decoration, you'll leave with a body of work that marks the season in your home for every winter after this one.
DETAILS
Your tuition includes a 30 lb allotment of standard studio clay, which covers all subsequent house glazes and bisque/glaze firings.

Additional Clay + Firing Fees
Additional studio clay can be purchased for $2.00 per pound (this price includes the raw clay, house glazes, and all subsequent firings).
Tools Provided
Standard studio tools are provided for use during your scheduled class time.
To safeguard our kilns and prevent firing accidents, outside clays, slips, or glazes from other studios or external suppliers are strictly prohibited in our facility. All materials used must originate from 716 CERAMICS STUDIO.
Kiln Safety Policy
Enrollment includes full access to the facility during our designated Open Studio Hours for independent practice and project development throughout the entire 9-week session.

STUDIO POLICIES + EXPECTATIONS
A minimum of 4 enrolled students is required to run this session. In the rare event a class does not meet minimum enrollment, you will be notified in advance and issued a full refund.
Class MinimuM
Makeup Week
Includes one scheduled makeup session held the week following the final class to ensure all your glazed work is ready for the final kiln firing.
Hard 1 Week Refund Policy
Tuition is refundable (minus a standard credit card processing/service fee) only if a cancellation request is submitted at least 1 week (7 days) prior to the first day of the semester. Cancellations made within the 7-day window or after the semester begins are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable.
Shelf Space + Unclaimed Work
(The 30/60 Rule)
Due to high studio volume and limited shelf capacity, strict timelines are enforced:
ABANDONED GREENWARE (30 Days): Any unfinished, bone-dry, or leather-hard greenware left on the student shelves for more than 30 days without activity will be recycled to clear space.
FINISHED FIRED POTTERY (60 Days): Completed, glaze-fired pottery will be held on the pickup shelves for a maximum of 60 days (2 months) from the final day of the semester. Students are solely responsible for tracking and retrieving their pieces. Any work left unclaimed past these dates will be cleared, recycled, or disposed of.
